 Patton also sang the vocals of Usher on his 2004 album Confessions. On the song "Can U handle it?" she sang as the female version of the song. which was co-written by Robin Thicke, whom she would later get married to. The song was co-written by Robin Thicke. Patton is credited with songwriting on several Robin Thicke albums, under the moniker "Max" which was her middle name (Maxine). Patton's first film role was a small role in 2005's romantic comedy Hitch along with Will Smith. She also appeared in London's drama film  later in the year. In 2006, she was alongside OutKast members Andre Benjamin and Big Boi in the musical film Idlewild written and directed by Bryan Barber.Patton's breakthrough came in 2006 when she landed the leading female character of Claire Kuchever in the science thriller Deja Vu alongside Denzel Washington. The film received mixed reviews from critics but it was a box office success, earning more than US$180 million worldwide. [12] She also appeared in her then-husband Robin Thicke's "Lost Without You" video in 2006. 13 Paula, in an interview with Hot 97, revealed that she wrote the "Lost Without You" video with Robin Thicke. Patton was the television reporter Kate Madison in 2008's comedy-drama Swing Vote. She also played the role of Amy Carson, Ben (Kiefer Suerland), in the supernatural horror film Mirrors. In Lee Daniels's critically acclaimed film, a drama called Precious (2009), she was the character Ms. Blu Rain, a teacher at the alternative high school in Harlem, New York, who mentors and teaches students who are in need and their families, including the title character, Claireece Precious Jones (Gabourey Sidibe). Then, she was in Just Wright (2010) as Queen Latifah's god-sister. In late 2010 Patton was named Sharon Stone's deputy district attorney. [15][16] When Patton was chosen to play the lead role of a female character in the action movie Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol however, her part on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit was cut to just one episode. The role was taken over by Melissa Sagemiller. Mission
