Kate Elizabeth Winslet CBE (/'wInzl@t/;[2] born 5 October 1975) is an English actress. She is known for her film work in independent films, specifically period dramas, as well as for her portrayals of strong and complicated women, she has been awarded numerous accolades such as an Academy Award, a Grammy Award as well as two Primetime Emmy Awards, three BAFTA Awards, and five Golden Globe Awards. Time magazine named Winslet among the 100 most influential individuals worldwide in 2010 and 2021. She was made as Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2012.Winslet trained in drama at the Redroofs Theatre School. Her first screen appearance, at age 15, was on the British TV series Dark Season (1991). Her debut film role was an 18-year-old murderess in Heavenly Creatures (1994). She was later awarded an BAFTA Award playing Marianne Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility (1995). Her role as the lead in Titanic (1997) the epic romance film which was the top-grossing film at that time, helped her achieve international fame. Winslet decided to stay clear of big-budget roles in favor of period films such as Quills (2001) and Iris (2000). The science-fiction romantic Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) was an important moment in her professional career. She also received recognition for her performance in Little Children (2006) and Revolutionary Road (2008). For playing a former Nazi camp guard in the former film, she won the BAFTA Award and the Academy Award for Best Actress. The role of Winslet as Joanna Hoffman in the biopic Steve Jobs (2015) won her another BAFTA Award, and she received two Primetime Emmy Awards for her performances in the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce (2011) as well as Mare of Easttown (2021).For her narration of a short story from the audiobook Listen to the Storyteller (1999), Winslet won a Grammy Award. She performed the song "What If" for the soundtrack to the film Christmas Carol: The Movie (2001). A co-founder of the charity Golden Hat Foundation, which aims to create autism awareness, Winslet has written a book on the topic. Winslet, who divorced from Sam Mendes and Jim Threapleton was married to Edward Smith in 2012. She has a child from each marriage.
