 Sofia Costanza Brigida Villani Scicolone (Italian called [so'fi:a:vil'la:ni SSikoborn on 20 September 1934) popularly referred to as Sophia Loren (/l@'ren/ l@-REN,[11 Italian: ['lo:ren]) is an Italian actress. The American Film Institute named her one of the top female stars in Classical Hollywood cinema. 2] She is one of the most renowned remaining stars from the Golden Age Hollywood cinema. Loren started her career in film in 1950, when she was just of 16. In the early part of the decade, she appeared as a bit part and with minor roles, however, her Paramount five-picture contract in the year 1956 made her an international star. Her films that she appeared in around this time include The Pride and the Passion, Houseboat, and It Started in Naples. During the 1950s, she was a star in films as a sexually emancipated persona and was one of the most well-known sex icons at the time.Loren's performance as Cesira in the film Two Women (1961) directed by Vittorio De Sica earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress, making her the first actress to be awarded an Oscar for a performance that was not in English. She holds the record for winning seven David di Donatello Awards for Best Actress: Two Women; Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (1963); Marriage Italian Style (1964 in which she was nominated to win a second Oscar); Sunflower (1970); The Voyage (1974); A Special Day (1977) and The Life Ahead (2020). Five of them were Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award, an Laurel Award and a Grammy Award; Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (1963); Marriage Italian Style (1964, for which she was nominated for another Oscar) and Sunflower (1970) The Voyage (1974); A Special Day (1977); and The Life Ahead (2020) were awarded. In 1991, she received the Academy Honorary Award for lifetime achievements.
