Shirley MacLaine

 Shirley MacLaine (born Shirley MacLean Beaty on April 24, 1934)[1Shirley MacLaine is an American author, actress, and former dancer. Her work is known for its portrayals of quirky, strong-willed and eccentric females, MacLaine has received numerous honors throughout her seven-decade career which include an Academy Award, an Emmy Award as well as two British Academy Film Awards, six Golden Globe Awards, two Volpi Cups and two Silver Bears. MacLaine is one of the last stars of the golden age of Hollywood.Born in Richmond, Virginia, MacLaine began acting as a teenager with minor parts in the Broadway musicals Oklahoma! The Pajama Game and Oklahoma! After minor role as an understudy in other productions MacLaine made her debut in a film with Alfred Hitchcock’s black comedy The Trouble with Harry (1955). MacLaine won the Golden Globe Award, New Star of the Year and the Golden Globe Award for Actress. Her fame grew with the lead roles in Around the World in 80 Days (1956), Some Came Running (1958), Ask Any Girl (1959) and The Apartment (1960), The Children's Hour (1961), Irma la Douce (1963), Sweet Charity (1969) and Being There (1979). A six-time Academy Award nominee, MacLaine was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress for the James L. Brooks comedy drama Terms of Endearment (1983).Her other prominent films include The Turning Point (1977), Madame Sousatzka (1988), Steel Magnolias (1989), Postcards from the Edge (1990), In Her Shoes (2005) and Bernie (2011). MacLaine was the recipient of numerous honorary awards. In 2012, she was awarded with the AFI Life Achievement Award, Gala Tribute from Film Society of Lincoln Center 1995 and Kennedy Center Honor 2013 for her contribution to American culture through performing arts. In 1998, she was honored with the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award. MacLaine is also an actor. She has written a number of books about metaphysics, spirituality and reincarnation.
