Sean Connery

 Sir Sean Connery (born Thomas Connery 25 August 1930 30 October 1930 - 31 October 2020) was a Scottish actor. He was the first actor to portray fictional British secret agent James Bond on film, playing in seven Bond films between 1962 until 1983. In the beginning, he played the character in Dr. No, Connery was Bond in six of Eon Productions' entries and was last seen in Never Say Never Again. Following his third appearance in the role of Bond in Goldfinger (1964) In June 1965, Time magazine observed "James Bond has grown into the most famous popular hero of the decade".Connery began acting in smaller theatre and television productions up to his first big part as Bond. While he didn't like the off-screen attention the role earned him, the success of the Bond films brought Connery offers from prominent directors like Alfred Hitchcock, Sidney Lumet and John Huston. The films where Connery appeared included Marnie (1964), The Hill (1965), Murder on the Orient Express (1974) as well as The Man Who Would Be King (1975). He was also in A Bridge Too Far (1977), Highlander (1986), The Name of the Rose (1986), The Untouchables (1987), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), and Finding Forrester (2000). Connery retired from acting in 2006. However, he returned briefly to voice-over roles in the year 2012. His accomplishments in the field of film were recognized with the Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards which included the Fellowship Award, as well as three Golden Globes. These included the Cecil B. DeMille Award as well as a Henrietta Award. In 1987, Connery was named an Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters in France, and he received the US Kennedy Center Honors lifetime achievement award in 1999. Connery was recognized as a knight for his contributions to drama on film in the 2000 New Year Honours.
