Lil' Kim

Kimberly Denise Jones (born July 11th, 1974),[2] better known by her stage name Lil Kim, is an American performer and reality TV presenter. Her birthplace was in Brooklyn, New York City and was raised there. After being expelled from her family home, she spent the majority of her early years on the streets. Jones started freestyle rapping in her teens, and was inspired by female hip-hop artists such as Lady of Rage and MC Lyte. She was asked to join The Notorious B.I.G.'s Junior M.A.F.I.A. in 1994 by a rapper who was also a friend. Their debut album, Conspiracy, was a huge success in 1994 and brought them two top 20 singles in America. They were then invited to join the group Junior M.A.F.I.A. [3The group has since sold over six million copies around the world. The album was the first female hip-hop album to be released in the United States at that time. The following albums, The Notorious K.I.M. (2000) as well as La Bella Mafia (2003) were also certified platinum. 2001 saw Lil' Kim reach number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with the single "Lady Marmalade" (a remake of LaBelle her 1974 single), alongside Mya, Pink, and Christina Aguilera. Other notable songs from the period comprise "The Jump Off" and "Magic Stick", the latter of which reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Kim's 2nd-highest-charting single as a lead artist.
