Katy Perry

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer, songwriter, and television personality. The public has praised her for her influence on contemporary pop music, as well as her quirky style and style, with Vogue referring to her as the "Queen of Camp. Perry was just 16 when she began a career as a gospel artist and released her debut album, Katy Hudson under Red Hill Records, in the year 2001. It was a commercial failure. She moved to Los Angeles at 17 to pursue secular music and then changed her stage name to "Katy Perry" after her mother's maiden name. While she was signed to Columbia Records, she recorded Fingerprints, only to be dismissed by Capitol Records. She became famous after her hit single One of the Boys (2008) which was a pop-rock single which featured her debut single "I Kissed a Girl", and the follow-up single "Hot and Cold". Both singles reached number one and three on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 respectively. The disco-influenced album Teenage Dream (2010) spawned five U.S. number one singles--"California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T. " as well as "Last Friday Night(T.G.I.F. )"--becoming the one of the few solo female artist to do this. A reissue of the album entitled Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection (2012) later produced the U.S. number one hit single "Part of Me". Prism, her fourth album which was dance-oriented, included themes of empowerment and two U.S. number 1 singles "Roar as well as "Dark Horse". Perry's music videos were among the first to surpass one billion views on Vevo. Witness, an electropop album featuring themes of feminism with a political subtext was the album Perry released in 2017. Smile (2020), however, was influenced by her motherhood experience. Afterwards, she embarked on her sold-out Las Vegas concert residency titled Play (2021-present) which was a huge success, receiving critical acclaim and commercial popularity.
