Ashanti (singer)

 Ashanti Shequoiya Doug (born 13 October 1980) is an American musician and singer. As a teenager she was discovered by and signed to Murder Inc. Records. She also appeared in Fat Joe's 2002 "What's Luv?" as well as Ja Rule's "Always on Time" Both of them became two of the most popular hits of 2002. She was the first female artist to hold the top two spots on the U.S. She was ranked number one and two on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, along with "Foolish", "What's Liv" and "Foolish". Ashanti was at the top of the charts, with two places. Ashanti won many awards for the album that included eight Billboard Music Awards and two American Music Awards. She also received a Grammy Award in 2003, for Best Contemporary R&B Record Album. The album has since been declared triple platinum in the United States and sold six million copies worldwide in 2003. The lead single from the album, "Foolish", was an immediate commercial and critical success; it reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. With "Foolish" Ashanti became the second artist (after The Beatles) to have their first three chart entries in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously. Ashanti was the vocalist and songwriter of Jennifer Lopez's hit song "Ain’t it funny (Murder Remix)." Ashanti's sophomore album, Chapter II, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 with 326,000 copies in the U.S. within its first week. Chapter II was certified platinum and sold over 1.5 million copies in the U.S. Chapter II was nominated to an Grammy Award as Best Contemporary R&B Album. "Rock wit U(Awww Baby") and "Rain on Me", were nominated in the categories of Best R&B Song or Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. Ashanti's Christmas debuted in the month of November, 2003. It was a modestly commercial success.
