Ashanti Shequoiya Doug (born on the 13th of October, 1980) is an American singer-songwriter and record producer, model, and actress. In her teens she was discovered by and signed to Murder Inc. Records. The singer was featured on Fat Joe’s "What’s Luv?" in 2002. Ja Rule's "Always on Time" as well as her own song both of which became huge success in 2002. Referred to as the Princess of Hip-Hop. She was the first female artist to be in the top two spots on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart simultaneously with "Foolish" and "What's Luv?" at the top of the charts, number two and one, respectively. In 2002, Ashanti released her eponymous debut album, which sold over 505,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week of release. Ashanti won many awards for her album, including eight Billboard Music Awards and two American Music Awards. She was also awarded an Grammy Award in 2003, for Best Contemporary R&B Album. It was later certified triple platinum in America and was sold to six million copies in the world by 2003. With "Foolish", she became only the second musician (after The Beatles) to have their first three chart entries in the top ten spots of the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously. Ashanti composed and sang on Jennifer Lopez's "Ain't It Funny (Murder Remix)" and it also made it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
