Angela Bassett

 Angela Evelyn Bassett, born August 16, 1958, is an American actress. After graduating at Yale University in 1980, Bassett is an American actress. She has received many awards, including three Black Reel Awards and a Golden Globe Award. After a few parts in Boyz n the Hood (1991), Reva Styles (1992) and Tina Turner (1993), Bassett made her acting debut in the biopic "What's Love Got to Do With It". This film brought the actress an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Her roles included Betty Shabazz (1992) in Malcolm X and Panther (1995), Katherine Jackson (1992), Voletta Wallace (1992) as well as Coretta Scott King (2013) in Betty & Coretta. Her other film roles include Bernandine Harris' Waiting to Exhale (1995) as well as Rachel Constantine's Contact (1997) and Stella Payne's How Stella Got Her Groove back (1998), Janet Williams (Music of the Heart) (1999), Lynne Jaks in Olympus Has Fallen (2012) and London Has Fallen (2016), the Queen Ramonda in Black Panther (2018) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2019).Bassett's performance in the role of Rosa Parks in The Rosa Parks Story (TV film) was a reason why she was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Lead actress in a miniseries or Movie. Bassett was a regular on FX's horror series American Horror Story: Coven in 2013. She received a nomination for Primetime Emmy Award as Outstanding Supporting Actress In the Miniseries or Movie. She returned as the series' regular for Freak Show, the series in its fourth season, playing Desiree Dupree. In the course of her role, she received another Primetime Emmy Award nomination. In the fifth season, Hotel, she portrayed Ramona Royale, who was a well-known movie actress. Bassett returned to the show's sixth season, Roanoke as an drunk actress named Monet Tumusiime. She plays struggling mother and former police officer Lee Harris in the My Roanoke Nightmare documentary. In addition, she reprised her role in the role of Marie Laveau in a guest role in the eighth season Apocalypse. In 2018, Bassett started producing and starring in the Fox first responder drama series 9-1-1, in the role of LAPD patrol sergeant Athena Grant.
