Venus Ebony Starr Williams (born on the 17th of June 1980)is an American professional tennis player. In 1994, Williams turned an professional, and she reached her first major final in the 1997 US Open. Williams was crowned the US Open and Wimbledon titles in 2000 and 2001. Williams also won the Olympic singles gold medal at the Sydney Olympics 2000. Williams was ranked the world's number one ranking for the first time on 25 February 2002. 1 ranking on 25 February 2002, making her the first African American woman to do this in the Open era, and the second-highest ranking of all time following Althea Gibson. [8] She lost to Serena in each of her four major finals between 2002-2003. She then suffered from injuries and only won one major title between 2003 and 2006. Williams was back at her best in 2007, she won Wimbledon, a feat she repeated the next year. She was ranked as No. 2 in the singles world rankings in 2010. 2 ranking in singles however, she suffered a second time due to injuries. In 2014, she slowly improved her performance, culminating in two major final performances at the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2017.
