Usain St. Leo Bolt OJ, CD and OLY (/ju:seInBorn 21 August 1986) is a former Jamaican sprinter, widely thought to be one of the greatest. He is the world record holder for the 100 200m, 100m, and 4 x 100 metres relay.An eight-time Olympic gold medalist, Bolt is the only sprinter to have won Olympic 100 m and 200 m gold medals in three consecutive Olympics (2008, 2012, and in 2016). He won two gold medals during the 4x100 relay. He also won two 4x100 relay gold medals. Bolt is considered to be the World Championships' most successful male athlete. Bolt was the first to be awarded four World Championship titles at 200m. Bolt also won three titles in the 100m. Bolt has improved on his 100m world record of 9.69 seconds with 9.58 seconds in 2009. It is the biggest improvement since the introduction of electronic timing was introduced in the year 2000. Bolt has broken the world record in the 200m, setting 19.30 seconds in 2008 and 19.19 2009 respectively. Bolt has led Jamaica to win three 4x 100m relay world records the current record being 36.84 seconds set in the year 2012. Bolt's most successful event is the 200 m in which he has three Olympic and four World medals. The 2008 Olympics were his first appearance on the international stage over 100 meters; he had earlier been awarded numerous medals in the 200 m (including 2007 World Championship silver) and held the world under-20 and world under-18 record for the event until being surpassed by Erriyon Knighton in 2021.
