The Ring (2002 film)

The Ring, an American supernatural horror film, was directed by Gore Verbinski. It stars Naomi Watts and Martin Henderson. The screenplay was written by Ehren Kruger. It is a remake of Hideo Nakata's 1998 Japanese horror film Ring, based on Koji Suzuki's 1991 novel with the same title. Watts portrays a journalist as she examines a mysterious videotape that seemingly murders viewers seven days after watching it. Ring premiered in theaters on the 18th of October 2002. It was greeted with mostly positive reviews and critics were raving about the film's atmosphere, its visuals and Watts's performance. It was one of the most popular horror remakes, grossing over $249 million worldwide and a budget of $48 million. The Ring is the very first installment of the English-language Ring series. It was followed by The Ring Two (2005) and Rings 2017 (2017). The Ring was the first step in remakes in English language Asian horror films like The Grudge or Dark Water.
