Santino was a contestant on Project Runway's second season, which ran from 2005. He had mixed results. He was a winner of two challenges and was in the top three designers three times. Rice was ranked in the bottom two times in four contests. Rice lasted for the whole season, and was among the three finalist who were selected to display at Olympus Fashion Week, New York City. He came in third place after Daniel Vosovic, Chloe Dao and Chloe Dao. Rice was well-known for his charismatic, but sometimes aggressive character on Project Runway. He was often referred to as"the "villain" of Project Runway. Rice's humor was well-known and so were his impersonations of his mentor Tim Gunn. Rice was selected to be the judge for the Miss Universe 2006 pageant. MTV VJ SuChin Pak was also inquiring Rice to design the Miss Universe dress 2006. Rice was featured on America's smartest Model episode 6th, in which he taught fashion-related instructions to contestants. Rice was employed as a designer for Camel cigarettes, dressing up elite clients, and establishing his own business in the field of clothing. He also served as an official judge on the Logo reality show RuPaul's Drag Race from 2009 to 2014. Rice was also a guest with Austin Scarlett in the Lifetime series On the Road With Austin and Santino. The show aired in the year the year 2010. The show was a follow-up of Rice and Scarlett as they traveled through small American towns to design clothing for women who have special events. Rice was also a part of the queer independent film thrille of 2010.
