Muggsy Bogues

 Bogues was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and was raised in the Lafayette Court housing projects.His mother was 4 feet 11 inches (1.50 m) and his father was 5 feet 5 inches (1.65 m). Bogues was the oldest of three siblings and brothers. The early years of his life were difficult. He was five years old when he was struck by stray buckshot , and required admission in a hospital. The incident stayed with Bogues until he reached adulthood. Bogues was just twelve years old when his father was sentenced for the armed theft. The sentence was 20 years in prison. Around the same the time, his brother Chuckie started using hard drugs.In the past, in addition to basketball, Bogues was a standout wrestler and baseball player growing up.As an infant, playing basketball on the playgrounds, he was nicknamed "Muggsy" after a diminutive character from the The Bowery Boys.Bogues first attended and played basketball at Southern High School in Baltimore. Bogues was interested in becoming dentist, which is why he enrolled at Baltimore Dunbar High School. The school offered health classes. Later, he was being coached at Dunbar by Bob Wade, the University of Maryland's head coach. He played with the future NBA players Reggie Williams, David Wingate and Reggie Lewis (the latter two were in his class of graduates). The Dunbar Poets were 29-0 in Bogues's junior season and 31-0 in Bogues's senior season 1982-83. They were ranked the first by USA Today.
