LaMelo Ball

LaMelo LaFrance (born August 22 2001), is an American professional basketball player for the Charlotte Hornets (NBA). The team selected him by the Hornets as the third overall pick of the 2020 NBA draft. Ball was named the NBA Rookie-of-the-Year in 2021, and was named as an NBA All-Star in 2022. He was a student at Chino Hills High School located in Chino Hills, California. He took home the state championship and had national success as a freshman along with his brothers Lonzo and LiAngelo. Following his junior year the dispute with his coach caused him to join the Lithuanian professional team Prienai. In 2018, he participated in the Junior Basketball Association (JBA) which was a league founded by his father, before going back to school as a senior at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio. Ball was a five-star player who committed to UCLA. However, eligibility concerns caused him to join the Illawarra Hawks in the National Basketball League (NBL). He experienced a rapid increase. Scouts previously dismissed Ball as an unlucky second round selection and potentially never playing in the NBA. His success allowed him to be picked third by the Charlotte Hornets for the 2020 NBA draft. Following the 2020-21 NBA season, Ball was chosen as the NBA Rookie of the Year.
