 Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25 1984), known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American musician, singer and a television host. Vogue has called her the "Queen of Camp", referring to her influence on pop music as well as campy style. Perry started her musical career in gospel at the age of 16 released her first album Katy Hudson under Red Hill Records in 2001. It was an uncommercial success. After 17 she relocated to Los Angeles to pursue secular music. She later adopted the stage name of "Katy Perry", which was her mother's maiden name. The singer-songwriter recorded an album while being signed to Columbia Records, but was removed before signing with Capitol Records.She became famous through One of the Boys (2008) which was a pop rock album featuring the debut track "I Kissed a Girl" and the follow-up track "Hot and Cold" that reached the top of the charts at three and one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 respectively. The disco-influenced pop album Teenage Dream (2010) spawned five U.S. number one singles--"California Gurls", "Teenage Dream", "Firework", "E.T. " as well as "Last Friday Night(T.G.I.F. )"--becoming only the second album by a woman achieve this. Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection (2012) was an album reissue. It released "Part of Me", the U.S. number one single. The album that focused on empowerment Prism (2013) featured two U.S. number one singles "Roar" and "Dark Horse". Both their respective music videos have made Perry the first artist to reach one billion views on Vevo. Witness is an electropop album that featured feminist themes featured a political message as well as Smile (2020), was an homage to her motherhood experience and the journey to mental health. After that, she began her Las Vegas concert residency entitled Play (2021-2099), which was praised by critics and commercial popularity.
