Joe Biden

 Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (/’baId@n/(listen) BY–d@n) is an American politician and the 46th president of the United States. He was born on November 20, 1942. A part of the Democratic Party, he previously was the 47th vice president from 2009 to 2017 under the presidency of Barack Obama, and represented Delaware in the United States Senate from 1973 to 2009.Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden moved with his family to Delaware in the year 1953. He attended the University of Delaware before earning his law degree from Syracuse University. He was elected to the New Castle County Council in 1970, and was the sixth-youngest senator in U.S. history after he was elected to the United States Senate from Delaware in 1972, at age 29. Biden was chair or ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for 12 years. Biden was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee from 1987 until 1995. He was the leader of efforts to adopt the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act as well as the Violence Against Women Act; and oversaw six U.S. Supreme Court confirmation hearings, including the controversial hearings of Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas.Biden ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008 and 1988. Barack Obama chose Biden as his running mate during the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. Biden was a two-term vice president. Obama's vice president. He was an active participant in the negotiations with Congress Republicans as well as an advisor to Obama. Biden and Kamala Harris defeated Mike Pence and Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election. On January 20, 2021, he became the oldest president in U.S. history and the first to have a female vice president. Biden as president has been able to combat the COVID-19 pandemic that led to recession. Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act, the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act. Biden also signed the Respect for Marriage Act, which codified protections to couples of the same gender within the United States and repealed DOMA. He appointed Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. Biden's foreign policy also included reinstatement of America's participation in the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Biden completed the withdrawal from Afghanistan of U.S. troops. During which time the Afghan government fell and the Taliban took control. He responded to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine by imposing sanctions on Russia and allowing international aid and weapons deliveries to Ukraine.
