Terry Gene Bollea[8][9](/b@'leI@/; born August 11, 1953), better known by his ring name Hulk Hogan, is an American retired professional wrestler. His fame as being the best-known and most popular wrestler of the 1980s is undeniable. He signed with the World Wrestling Federation in 1983 which later evolved into WWE. His reputation as an all-American hero helped to launch the 1980s professional wrestling boom. He was the main event at eight of the nine Wrestlemania's initial nine events. He also won the WWF Championship five more times during his first run. His second run was the longest championship run in history. He was the first wrestler in history to take home consecutive Royal Rumble matches. He took them both in 1990 and 1991. His match with Andre the Giant on WWF The Main Event on February 5, 1988 remains the only one to hold American record-setting television viewership for wrestling, with a 15.2 ratings from Nielsen and 33 million viewers
