George Carlin

 George Denis Patrick Carlin, born May 12th, 1937 died June 22nd the 22nd of June, 2008. He was an American comedian and actor. Considered to be one of the most significant and influential stand-up comedians of all time, he was dubbed "the antithesis of counterculture comedians". He was known for his black humor and observations on the political system and the English language, psychology, religion, and taboo subjects. His "seven filthy words" routine was at the heart of the landmark 1978 United States Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation, in which a 5-4 decision affirmed the authority of the government to ban sexually explicit content from public airwaves.The first of Carlin's 14 stand-up comedy specials for HBO was filmed in 1977, broadcast as George Carlin at USC. His stand-up routines focused on socially-based critiques of American society in the 1980s. He frequently commented on American politics as well as satirized American culture. During the three-decade Johnny Carson time period He was a frequent actor and host on The Tonight Show. He was also the host of Saturday Night Live's debut episode in 1975. The last comedy special he hosted The Show is Bad for Ya was recorded just four months prior to the time of his death due to cardiac disease. He was awarded the Mark Twain prize for American comedy in 2008, posthumously. In 2004, he was second on Comedy Central's list of the top 10 American comedians. In the year 2017, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him as second (behind Richard Pryor) on its list of the 50 best stand-up comedians of all time.
