Cutkosky began doing photo ads when he was just four years old, as a way for his mother and Cutkosky to have a time with each other. After doing a few ads Cutkosky was invited to participate in commercials and later for films. He was offered his first film part as Carl with Vince Vaughn in the Christmas comedy Fred Claus (2007) when the age of seven was. When he was nine, Cutkosky played a mythical spirit named Barto in the supernatural horror film The Unborn (2009), which gave him the chance to play opposite Gary Oldman.In 2009 Cutkosky was chosen to play Carl Gallagher in the Showtime TV show Shameless, the second youngest Gallagher sibling and the most troublemaker. The show's main characters are played by Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy. Shameless ran for 11 seasons between 2010 to 2021, and is currently the longest-running Showtime original scripted show.
