David Portnoy, born March 22, 1977, is an American blogger and internet celebrity. He was also the founder of Barstool Sports, a blog about sports and pop culture. Portnoy was raised in Swampscott (Massachusetts). He is Jewish, and he had a bar mitzvah. He attended Swampscott High school. One of his classmates was ESPN's Todd McShay. He started attending University of Michigan in 1995, and graduated in education. Portnoy also founded thegamblingman.com while at Michigan. This website was where he published his picks for sports betting.
