David Khari Webber Chappelle (/S@'pel/ sh@-PEL; born August 24, 1973) is an American stand-up comedian and actor. His sketch comedy satire Chappelle’s Show (2003-2006) that aired on the network, during which he appeared as a lead and a regular performer, made him most famous. Chappelle resigned from the show in the middle of the third season. After a hiatus, Chappelle returned to performing stand-up comedy across the U.S.By 2006, Chappelle was called the "comic genius of America" by Esquire and in 2013, "the best" by a Billboard writer.In 2017, Rolling Stone ranked him No. in the Rolling Stone's "50 Most Outstanding Stand Up Comics Of All Time", Chappelle was placed 9th. He co-wrote the 1998 comedy Half Baked. This was his first major role. Chappelle also appeared on the ABC comedy series Buddies (1996). In 2016, he signed a $20-million-per-release comedy-special deal with Netflix and released six stand-up specials under the deal
