Anil Kumar Gupta, an Indian scholar is an expert in grassroots innovation. He was the founder of the Honey Bee Network. He quit as a full-time faculty at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad in 2017, which he held for approximately 36 years. He was an executive vice-chair position at the National Innovation Foundation. He is also an Associate of the World Academy of Art and Science. In 2004, he was conferred the Padma Shri for his contribution to management education. He also designed courses for students at the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad. One of his most awaited courses included Shodh Yatra, (meaning 'research walk'), under which students from management schools traveled to various parts of the country to learn from local communities and study their systems of knowledge. His larger idea of traveling across the country and engaging with traditional farmers, knowledge holders as well as grassroots innovators, students and many more, led to the creation of this program. The first course was held in May 1998, in the western Indian province of Gujarat.
