David Ortiz

 David Americo Ortiz Arias, a Dominican-American former designated hitter (DH) and the first baseman in Major League Baseball, was born on the 18th of November, 1975. He was a major player for the Boston Red Sox in the American League (AL). After six seasons playing with the Minnesota Twins, with no notable results, Ortiz was promoted to the Red Sox where he played an important role during the 2004 World Series championship drought. He also won championships in 2007 and 2013. He was the World Series Most Valuable Player for 2013. In his first five seasons playing for the team in which he played, he averaged 41 home runs as well as 128 runs batted in and led the AL twice in the latter category and setting the team's single-season record of 54 home runs in the year 2006 He was also in the top five of the AL's Most Valuable Player voting all five years.Used mostly as a DH throughout his 14 seasons playing for the Red Sox, he was a ten-time All-Star and seven-time Silver Slugger winner, and was widely regarded as one the greatest designated hitters of the past. 1 He was awarded the Edgar Martinez Award as the league's best DH eight times and established major league records for career home runs (485), RBI (1,569) and hits (2,192) as the DH. He posted ten seasons each having 30 home runs and 100 RBI and he hit .300 or higher seven times. After a drop in offensive performance from 2008 to 2012, he experienced a strong resurgence in the final four seasons and was one of his most productive seasons in the final season which saw him lead the AL in doubles, RBI and slugging percentage, once again taking the team to the postseason.Upon the end of his career, Ortiz ranked sixth in AL history with 541 homers, sixth in doubles (632) and ninth in RBI (1,768). Considered to be one of the most players to hit clutch,[2He hit 11 walk-off home runs in the regular season, as well as two during the postseason in 2004 and the second one won the AL Division Series. In the first year of his eligibility He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022.
