Claudia Cardinale

 Claude Josephine Rose "Claudia" who is also known as Cardinale is an Italian actress. After making her debut in a minor role along with Omar Sharif, an Egyptian actor, in Goha (1958), Cardinale rose to fame as an actress in European films. After making her debut in a small role alongside Egyptian star Omar Sharif in Goha (1958), Cardinale became one of the best-known actresses in Italy through roles in films such as Rocco and His Brothers (1960), Girl with a Suitcase (1961), Cartouche (1962), The Leopard (1963) and Fellini's 8 1/2 (1963).From 1963, Cardinale appeared in The Pink Panther with David Niven. She then appeared in the Hollywood films Blindfold (1965), Lost Command (1966), The Professionals (1966), Don't Make Waves (1967) alongside Tony Curtis, The Hell with Heroes (1968), and the Sergio Leone Western Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) which was a joint production by the US and Italy that she recognized for her performance as a former prostitute in the film alongside Jason Robards, Charles Bronson, and Henry Fonda.Jaded by the Hollywood film industry and not wanting to become the next cliche, Cardinale returned to Italian and French cinema, and garnered the David di Donatello for Best Actress award for her performance in Il giorno della civetta (1968) and as a prostitute with Alberto Sordi in A Girl in Australia (1971). She met Pasquale Squitieri in the year 1974. He became her partner and she was often a guest on his films, including Claretta (1984), Corleone (1978), and I guappi (1974). The movie that she starred in was awarded the Nastro d'Argento Award for the Best Actress. She starred as the love interest of Klaus Kinski in Werner Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo in 1982. In the year 2010, Cardinale was awarded the Best Actress Award at the 47th Antalya "Golden Orange" International Film Festival for her portrayal of an elderly Italian woman who is able to take on a young Turkish exchange student in Signora Enrica.Outspoken about women's issues throughout her career, Cardinale has been a UNESCO goodwill ambassador for the Defense of Women's Rights since March 2000. In February of 2011, the Los Angeles Times Magazine named Cardinale among the top 50 stunning women in the history of film.
