 Thomas Cruise Mapother IV (born July 3 1962), known professionally as Tom Cruise, is an American actor and producer. He is one of the most highly-paid actors on the planet, [1] and has been honored with numerous awards, including an Honorary Palme d'Or, three Golden Globe Awards, as in addition to nominations for three Academy Awards. The films he has acted in have grossed more than $4 billion in North America, and more than $11.1 billion worldwide. 2 He is among the most successful actors in the world. The film received acclaim for his roles in the dramatic films The Color of Money (1986), Rain Man (1988) and Born on the Fourth of July (1989). As the character Ron Kovic in the latter film, he was awarded an award called the Golden Globe Award and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor. He was a major Hollywood actor in the 1990s.
