 Thomas Cruise Mapother IV (born July 3 1962), known professionally as Tom Cruise, is an American actor and producer. He is one of the most highly-paid actors on the planet, [1] and has been honored with numerous awards, including an Honorary Palme d'Or, three Golden Globe Awards, as in addition to nominations for three Academy Awards. The films he has acted in have grossed more than $4 billion in North America, and more than $11.1 billion worldwide. 2 He is among the most successful actors in the world. The film received acclaim for his roles in the dramatic films The Color of Money (1986), Rain Man (1988) and Born on the Fourth of July (1989). As the character Ron Kovic in the latter film, he was awarded an award called the Golden Globe Award and received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor. He was a major Hollywood actor in the 1990s. He was a part of several films that became commercially successful, including the drama A Few Good Men (1992), the thriller The Firm (93), the horror movie Interview with the Vampire (1994) and the romantic comedy Jerry Maguire (1996). Cruise was awarded the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor and was nominated for his second Academy Award. Cruise's character as an actor and motivational speaker in Magnolia (1999) brought him another Golden Globe Award and a nomination to the Academy Award. He also was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Artist. Cruise is now a well-known action star who often takes on dangerous stunts. He was Ethan Hunt in all six of the Mission: Impossible films from 1996 to 2018. Other notable roles within the genre are Vanilla Sky (2001), Minority Report (2002), The Last Samurai (2003), Collateral (2004), War of the Worlds (2005), Knight and Day (2010), Jack Reacher (2012), Oblivion (2013), Edge of Tomorrow (2014), as well as Top Gun: Maverick (2022) and Maverick the highest-grossing film.Cruise was married to actresses Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, and Katie Holmes. Two of his kids were adopted by Kidman during the time of their marriage, and the third is his biological child, which he shares with Holmes. Cruise is an outspoken advocate for Scientology. Church of Scientology, which has helped him overcome dyslexia. Cruise caused controversy in the late 2000s over his criticism of psychiatry anti-depressant drugs and his efforts to promote Scientology throughout Europe.
