 Sofia Costanza Brigida Villani Scicolone is also known professionally as Sophia Loren (/l@/ l@REN,[1] Italian pronunciation: ['lo?ren]) is an Italian actress. The American Film Institute named her one of the greatest female stars in Classical Hollywood cinema. 2 As of 2022, she's one of the last surviving prominent stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema and is the only remaining living person on the AFI's list of 25 best female stars, which is ranked at number 25. Inspiring to enroll in acting lessons after a beauty pageant, Loren began her film career at age sixteen in 1950. At the start of the decade, she appeared in a few small parts and in minor roles prior to her Paramount five-film contract in 1956 made her an international star. Her film appearances around this time include The Pride and the Passion, Houseboat, and It Started in Naples. In the 1950s, she appeared in films as a sexually liberated persona, and was among the most famous sex figures of the time.Loren's performance as Cesira in the film Two Women (1961) directed by Vittorio De Sica won her the Academy Award for Best Actress and made her the first actress to be awarded an Oscar for a non-English-language performance. She holds the record of having earned seven David di Donatello Awards for Best Actress: Two Women; Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (1963); Marriage Italian Style (1964, in which she was nominated to win an additional Oscar); Sunflower (1970); The Voyage (1974); A Special Day (1977) and The Life Ahead (2020). Five extra Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, a Laurel Award and a Grammy Award; Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow (1963); Marriage Italian Style (1964 in which she was nominated to win a second Oscar) The Sunflower (1970) The Voyage (1974) The Voyage (1974); A Special Day (1977) and The Life Ahead (2020) have been won. In 1991, she received the Academy Honorary Award for lifetime accomplishments.
