Michelle Marie Pfeiffer (/'faIf@rborn on April 29 1958) is an American actress and producer. A prolific performer known for her versatility, whose screen credits span over four decades, she became one of the most lucrative Hollywood celebrities and sex icons of a popular nature during the 1990s and 1980s. She has been awarded numerous awards such as an Golden Globe Award and a British Academy Film Award, as well as nominations for three Academy Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award. She was honored with an honorary star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2007. Starting her career with small films and TV appearances in 1978, she landed her first lead role in Grease 2 (1982), which underperformed critically and commercially. She was fed up of being portrayed in roles that weren't challenging for attractive women. In 1983, she portrayed the role of Elvira Hancock, a gangster moll in Scarface. Her roles in Married to the Mob (1988) and The Witches of Eastwick ( 1987) were further successes. She was also nominated for the first time in a string of six consecutive Golden Globe Awards. She was nominated for two Academy Awards for her performances in Dangerous Liaisons (1988), and The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989) and was awarded an award for her performance in the film, a Golden Globe Award. She portrayed Catwoman in Batman Returns (1992), got her third Academy Award nomination for Love Field (1992) as well as garnered attention for her performance in The Age of Innocence (1993) and Wolf (1994) and produced a number of her own stars' vehicles under her company, Via Rosa Productions, including Dangerous Minds (1995). Opting to focus on her family, she acted in sporadic roles throughout the 2000s and the first half of the decade. She was the character Stardust's villain in Hairspray in 2007. Pfeiffer returned to the spotlight in 2017 by playing roles in Where's Kyra!, Mother! and Murder on the Orient Express. She also received her first Primetime Emmy Award nomination, for her role as Ruth Madoff in The Wizard of Lies. After her first appearance as a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she was The Wasp in Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018). Then, she received her eighth Golden Globe Award nomination in French Exit (2020).
