Marie Osmond

Marie was the first of two siblings (out of nine) in the Osmond family who were not in the music industry; Tom Osmond who was completely deaf, was the other. (In addition to the four original Osmond Brothers, Donny and Jimmy, hearing-impaired oldest brother Virl Osmond was a part-time worker behind the scenes with dancing routines.) Donny became a celebrity in his teens following the Osmonds had their first big success in 1970. Marie was encouraged by the Osmonds mom to make an album. She signed with MGM/Kolob Records, her family's record label. Marie began performing with her brothers at shows. While her brothers were rocking and her music was geared towards a niche market which the Osmond family had not yet targeted the country music. In 1973, Osmond released her first single as a solo artist , titled "Paper Roses". The recording was the number. one country single, climbed to the Top 5 on the Billboard pop charts and also achieved crossover success. The album that had the same name also earned an award of gold. In 1974 she released "In My Little Corner of the World" and an album with the same name. Both reached the Billboard country Top 40. The title track from her album Who's Sorry Now, released in 1975, climbed to No. 40. In 1974, Osmond also had two pop music duet hits: "I'm leaving it all up to you" and "Morning Side of the Mountain". Both the former and latter songs reached the Top 10 on the pop charts, while the latter was a Top 20 hit in country. Another duet featuring Donny, "Deep Purple" was a hit, remaining at the top of the charts for six months before peaking at number 14.
