 Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (/'stef@ni DZe:rm@'nat@(listen) (listen) STEF-@nee JUR-m@-NOT(born March 28 the 28th of March, 1986), known professionally as Lady Gaga, is an American artist, singer and actress. Her fame is based on her reimagining of the image and musical versatility. Gaga began her career as a teenager, singing at open mic nights and acting in school plays. She was a student at Collaborative Arts Project 21, through the New York University Tisch School of the Arts, before leaving to pursue an career in music. After Def Jam Recordings canceled her contract, she worked as a writer for Sony/ATV Music Publishing, where she signed a deal with Interscope Records and KonLive Distribution, in 2007. Gaga made her mark in the year following when she released her first studio album The Fame, and its chart-topping singles "Just Dance" and "Poker Face". The album was later renewed with the extended musical The Fame Monster (2009) which included the smash singles "Bad Romance", Telephone, and Alejandro. Gaga's five succeeding studio albums all debuted atop the US Billboard 200. Her most recent album, Born This Way (2011) was a study of techno-pop and electronic rock. It sold more than one million copies within the first week. With over 1 million downloads in just one week, the album's song's title track became the iTunes Store's fastest-selling song. The pop star's third album with an EDM influence Artpop (2013) as well as the album's lead track "Applause" was followed by the jazz album Cheek to Cheek (2014), which she produced alongside Tony Bennett, as well as the album of soft rock Joanne (2016). Gaga also branched out into acting, and won awards for her performance in the miniseries American Horror Story Hotel (2015-2016) as well as the musical A Star Is Born (2018). Her work on the latter's soundtrack, which produced the top-charting single "Shallow", made her the first woman to win the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, Golden Globe Award, and Grammy Award in one year. The sixth studio album of Lady Gaga Chromatica (2020) brought her to return to dance music. It was the first album to release the top hit "Rain on Me". The album was followed by Love for Sale (her second album with Bennett), and she was cast as the lead in House of Gucci in 2021.
