DJ Envy was born in Queens, New York City. He was taught and mentored by a local acquaintance DJ Clue [4] who introduced him the mixtape scene in the late 1990s. To aid him in his success as a disc jockey DJ Clue took Envy under his mentorship. In the early 2000s He was hosting commercials and exclusives for other well-known artists, which comprised Hahflamez, Jay-Z, 50 Cent and The Lox. In the following years the signing, he signed with DJ Clue's label Desert Storm. The label released his debut studio album, The Desert Storm Mixtape, Vol. DJ Envy's biggest break came in 2003 , when he was a DJ for Hot 97's "Takin' it To the Streets" show. Angie Martinez hosted the show from 12:00 to 4:00 AM. Martinez later took over the hosting duties when Martinez was pregnant. Between 6 and 10 morning each day, he was the co-host of Hot 97's morning show with Miss Jones. The morning show ended in July 2008 after Miss Jones moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. DJ Envy played his own mix shows on Hot 97 called "The People's Mix" on Saturdays between 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm and "The People's Choice Hit List" on Sundays, from 5 pm until 8:00 after 8:00 pm. There was an hour-long segment on Hot 97 titled "New at 2" in which he played the latest hits from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm. He hosts the Hip-Hop Nation afternoon show on Sirius XM Radio on weekdays from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm EST, and on weekends, he used to host shows from 2:00 pm to 6 pm on Power 105.
