Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas (born October 13, 1980) is an American artist, singer, record producer and model. When she was a teen, she was discovered and signed to Murder Inc. Records. The year 2002 was the year she appeared on Fat Joe's "What's Luv?" Ja Rule's "Always on Time" as well as her own song which were both huge success in 2002. She is often called the Queen of Hip-Hop. She was the first female artist to hold the top two spots on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Billboard Hot 100 chart simultaneously with "Foolish" and "What's Luv?" Ashanti was at number two and one, in both. Ashanti won many awards for her album which included eight Billboard Music Awards and two American Music Awards. She also won an Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Recording in 2003. The album has since been certified triple platinum in the United States and sold six million copies around the world at the close of 2003. The lead single from the album, "Foolish", was a critical and commercial success and reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. Ashanti became the first artist to have three Billboard Hot 100 chart entries with "Foolish". Ashanti composed and sang on Jennifer Lopez's "Ain't It Funny (Murder Remix)" that also reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
